According to the guidelines of Indian Government Human Resources Ministry, no university in India should offer M.Tech through distance education.  A circular has been issued by All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) to this extent.  Therefore it is better to do M.Tech as a regular candidate.  If it is not possible select the M.Tech part time course offered by some universities.

Higher education opportunities after diploma in electronics and communications | Importance of taking AMIE membership for electronics and communications diploma students

There are many higher education opportunities available for candidates who finish their Diploma in Electronics and Communication Engineering.  They can do their Bachelor or Professional degree in related subject.

A.M.I.E. Membership: The candidate can finish their BE/B.Tech by taking the member ship of The Associate Member of Institution of Engineers (A.M.I.E).  This course is equivalent to the traditional Engineering Degree.  This is very convenient for working professionals. Candidates can also apply for GATE/ESI.  The candidates have to register themselves as a member of Institution of Engineers.  These memberships are of two types.  They are technician and senior technician memberships. Candidates who completed their intermediate with 45% marks and who have finished 18 years of age can apply for Technician membership throughout the year.  To get a Senior Technician Membership, one has to have corporate membership, working as an Engineer.  They should have completed their Engineering Diploma or equivalent course.  Exams are held in June and December.  Candidates who want to appear for December exams have to register before August.  AMIE course has two sections A and B.  Section-A contains Engineering common subjects and Section-B contains subjects of the related field.  This course has to be finished in 6 years.
