BACK HISTORY

The NIMHANS was established during the year 1974. Before this organization during the 19^th century the King of Mysore has commenced the mental disorder Ashram. During the year 1925 the name of the ashram has been changed as Mental Health Hospital. In the year 1954 the Government of India has established the National Mental Hospital. In the year 1974 these two organizations have been clubbed and formed as NIMHANS as a autonomous body. On 14^th November, 1994 the University Grants Commission has recognized the NIMHNAS as a deemed university.  Further the UGC has taken a decision to remove the words of “Deemed” from the name of the institution. As such it has become an independent autonomous University.

In selection of Lessons and in planning of the studies related to different courses this organization can act as independently and freely. This institute will works under guidance of Karnataka Government. The funds are providing for the researches  which are conducting by this Institution through the National and International organizations.

RESEARCH FIELDS

This autonomous organization is providing the prestigious courses in the field of mental health and offering the courses of certificate to doctoral courses. The courses such as   Bio-physics, bio-statistics, clinical neurosis, mental health and social  physiology, epidemiology, Human genetics, Mental health education, Neuro chemistry, Neuro  Microbiology, Neuro physiology, Neuro virology, Nursing, Sciatic social work, are made available in this institution. In the sectors of Saco pharmacology, Speech pathology, audiology, the doctoral degrees courses are provided with all kind of facilities and for  conducting the research in  these sectors.

QUALIFICATIONS

The admissions of these courses provided by this organization are meant to the 10^th class passed candidates to M.B.B.S. passed candidates. As per their individual educational qualifications the courses will be offered. To complete the course of MFL the post graduation is required.

For the course of B.Sc., (Nursing) the Intermediate qualification with science English subjects and with 50% aggregate marks are required. To join in this course the candidate has to attend for the written examination. Generally this examination paper will be very tough. Highest competition is there for the courses related to Psychiatry. For one seat there is a competition with 150 candidates.

FEES

If the fees of  NIMHANS  have been compared with other corporate organizations it can be found that the fees NIMHANS are less and affordable by the students. For PhD courses the minimum tuition fee is Rs. 18,000/- For B.Sc., (Nursing) M.D. courses Rs. 45,000/- to 50.000/-

PROFILE

The candidate who possess the qualification of M.B.B.S. they can work as Residential doctors, and they will be paid with remuneration of Rs. 10,000/- The other candidates have also get the same benefit through the Indian Council of Medical Research organization in the shape of stiffened.

At present there is shortage in the sectors of Psychology and Psychiatry. In the M.B.B.S. Lessons the syllabus related to this sector is not shown as importance. In Physiology the study on mind is not made so much importance. Hence NIMHANS organization is concentrating on the cases related to mental health, the clinical management and on specialization on these branches. If necessary the methods of Yoga and Ayurvedic treatment procedures are adopting in the treatment of mental health cases. In cases of the mental health control, the researchers and the students are providing several opportunities to study such cases.
