How to become a Collector? Civil Services Exams details and Procedure : All graduates who did their graduation either in Regular or Distance mode are eligible to appear for civil services examination conducted by Government of India to become collector. The Union Public Service commission issues a notification either in the month of November/December. All the posts like IAS, IPS, IFS, and IRS….etc are filled through civil services examination which was conducted nationally.
The paper is common for all posts. This was conducted in three stages (Preliminary, Mains, and Interview). In the first stage they will conducts a preliminary examination with all objective type questions for 450 marks divided into two papers called paper -1 which is General studies and paper-2 which is elective optional.
For every wrong answer in the paper they will deduct 1/4th mark. You can choose any of the listed subjects as an elective optional that need not be the subject read in degree. Paper 1 covers the topics like Indian History, General sciences, Indian Geography, Indian Politics, Mental ability, Science and technology. To read the above topics we can refer the text books from 6th to plus 2 printed by NCERT where as in paper2 the questions are in stage of PG. to answer these questions we can refer any 1 or 2 books in respective subject. The number of students qualified for mains from preliminary will depends on the number of posts available that year. They will take 12 to 13 times more than the available posts for the main examination.
Mains examination which is in stage 2 has General Essay and two General Studies papers, two optional subjects (4 papers) . Apart from the above they will even test the ability of candidate in local language and English language. In this paper candidate must get 35% of marks as a qualifying mark. Candidate need not to prepare these papers because all these are in 10th class standards. They won’t consider these marks for final score. They will select the candidate for an interview based on the total marks obtained in all 7 papers.
Besides graduation you can also concentrate on General studies in your free time. Then after graduation you can decide the optional subjects and do the post graduation in that specialization only and simultaneously go for coaching if required. Then you dreams to become a collector will comes to true.
The details of Question Papers pattern is as follows:
For prelims examination which is of totally objective type consists 150 Questions from General Studies of 150 marks and its duration is 2.30 hrs. there is also optional subject with 120 questions which are of objective type again of 300 marks with the duration of 3hrs
For mains which are totally descriptive have 9 papers. Among them first one is in Regional language of 300 marks and General English for 300 marks and General Essay for 200 marks, General studies has two papers each of 300 marks, four optional papers namely optional-1 paper-1 and optional-1 paper-2 and optional-2 paper-1 and optional-2 paper-2 each of 300 marks and the duration for all these seven papers is 3 hours each.
Finally the interview is been conducted which is for 300 marks which decides the selection procedure.
