IITs ( Indian Institutes of Technology ) are the premier institutes offering engineering and technology education india. IITs are located at Madras, Bombay, delhi, Kanpur, Kharagpur, Roourkee, Hyderabad, Guwahathi, Bhuvaneswar, Gandhinagar, Rajastan, Punjab and Patna. Three more IITs are getting started at Indore, Himachal Pradesh and Varanasi ( IT BHU is converted to IIT) from the academic year 2009-10. IIT Council takes care of the administration and management of the IITs. Now IITs are planning to start new courses in the fields of medicine, law and management. IIT JEE (Indian institute of Technology Joint Entrance Examination) is conducted for admission into undergraduate courses at IITs in india. GATE (Graduate aptitude Test in Engineering) is conducted for admission into post graduate courses in IITs in india.
A pass in 10+2 or intermediate or its equivalent examination with mathematics, physics and chemistry as subjects is the eligibility criteria for admission into undergraduate courses leading to the award of B.Tech (Bachelor of Technology) degree. IITs offer dual degree ( 5 year M.Tech programme along with B.Tech) IIT JEE is conducted at two levels for screening and final examinations. Those selected at IIT JEE are admitted into the IITs. There are numerous coaching institutes offering coaching for IIT JEE examination India. Next IIT JEE shall be conducted in the month of May 2010 also called as IIT JEE 2010. One of the IITs shall be entrusted the job of conducting IIT JEE. More than 3,00,000 candidates appear at IIT JEE for nearly 5,000 seats available across all IITs in India. Some of the institutes are also considering the performance at IIT JEE as admission criteria into their institutions.
