Korukonda Sainik School – Admissions
The one and only Sainik School in our state is in Korukonda, Vizianagaram District. Sainik Schools are established in our country with the initiation of our first Prime Minister Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru and the then Central Defense Minister Dr.V.K. Krishna Menon before 1962. There are 20 schools all over the country. Korunkonda Sainik School was established in the same year in 18th January in Korunkonda palace with the generous donation of Dr.Vijayanand Gajapathi Raju (Sir vijji). The last emperor of Pusapati Dynasty Dr. P.v.G. Raju helped a lot for the establishment of School. He had allotted approximately 206 acres of land for this school. The school is located at a distance of 11kms from Vijayanagaram and 60kms from Vizag. It is affiliated to Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) in Delhi and plays vital role in training students for SSC, All India Senior School Certificate Examination (XII), UPSC and NDA.
Entrance Procedure…
Korukonda Sainik School has provision for admission in classes 6th and 9th only. There are nearly 70 seats for 6th class and 30 seats for 9th in the coming academic year. Students can get admission through an entrance test which is going to be conducted on 3rd January next year. Those who are born between 2.7.1999 and 1.7.2000 are eligible to take entrance test for getting admission into Class VI. The test includes mathematical Knowledge Test and Language Ability Test for 2hours from 9AM to 11AM and Intelligence Test for 50 minutes at 12noon. Each paper carries 100 marks.
The students who are born between 2.7.1996 and 1.7.1997 are eligible for getting admission into Class IX. Though the Entrance Test is conducted in English Medium, students can write in any of the recognized regional languages. There are two papers in Entrance Test. Paper I consists of mathematics and Science and is 2 ½ hours long and Paper II consists of English and Social Studies and is conducted for 2 hours. Mathematics carries 200 marks, English carries 100 marks, and Science and Social Studies carry 75 marks each. Entrance test is conducted in Vijayanagaram, Vizag, Tirupathi, Guntur, Karimnagar and Hyderabad. A medical test is conducted for those who qualify in entrance examination.
There is reservation for SC and ST students which can be duly filled by General candidates if there are no reserved students.
Fees…Details…
Each student should pay Rs. 50,000/- as fees per annum. For merit students it is only Rs.20,000 -25,000 as half of the fees can be borne by Central Government and some amount can be borne by State government .
How to get the Application Form…
Application forms are now available and can be obtained either directly from School or through Post by sending D.D. for Rs. 375/- in favour of the Principal, Korukonda Sainik School, Korukonda, Vijayanagaram District drawn in SBI, Korukonda Branch (Code No 2791). SC and ST students can get it for Rs. 275/- only. Completed application forms can be sent before 10th December. Students can get the previous question papers by paying an additional Rs.25/-.
