Teacher training courses after tenth-Teacher career for tenth class candidates

Many teacher training courses are available for candidates who have the qualification from tenth class to degree. Candidates who do these courses can become SGT, school assistant, language pundit, PET in government or private schools. Few such teacher training courses are discussed below.

Montessori Training: Montessori teacher Training course is meant for teaching kids in the age group of three to five years in pre-primary level. The special feature of the course is to train the students by using some special techniques so as to improve their creativity and skills. Presently this course is offered in three stages. They are Certificate in Montessori Training, Certificate in Montessori training in Early Childhood, Diploma in Montessori training, Higher diploma in Montessori Training and professional diploma in Montessori Training. Minimum qualification for admission into certificate courses is tenth class. Later the candidates can complete the training in various stages and complete the professional diploma course in teacher training which is equal to graduation. Earlier kindergarten schools were only seen in cities but now these can be found in Tier-2 cities also. Presently there are nearly 20,000 kindergartens and nursery schools. The candidates who complete this course are given the salary of Rs. 5,000 – 10,000 depending on their skills and experience.

DEd: Diploma in Education is the course that offers government job with intermediate qualification. For admission into this course, the candidates have to write DIETCET and qualify in that. Duration of the course is two years. In the first year there will be subjects such as psychology, health, education-computer education etc. In the second year the candidates will be taught the methods to teach Telugu, English, Mathematics, Science and social subjects. As part of the course, there will be 75 days teaching practice. The candidates have to teach in primary schools from 35 days and upper primary schools in ten days. There will be internship in schools for thirty days. There are around 23 government DIET colleges each in one district in the state of Andhra Pradesh. Each college has hundred seats. There are around two hundred private colleges and nearly ten thousand seats available in all of them for DEd course. Candidates who completed DEd will become eligible to appear for DSC exam conducted by state government and for the Secondary Grade Teacher posts. Government has decided that from 2012, SGT posts will only be filled by DEd candidate which will be very advantageous for these candidates.

BEd: BEd is a course that gives the chance for the candidates to begin their teaching career with graduation eligibility. Duration of Bachelor of Education course is one year. For admission into this course, the candidates have to write Education Common Entrance Test or EDCET. Communicative English, Personality development, Education technology and teaching methods of two of the group subjects the candidates studied in graduation will be taught to the students. During training BEd students will have practicals in teaching for 45 days in school. In all the 615 governments and private colleges that offer BEd course, there are around 65,000 seats in Andhra Pradesh. BEd qualified candidates are also eligible to work as subject teachers in high schools.

Physical education: As part of schooling, physical programs such as sports and exercise should be given equal importance. That is the reason why government had made the rule that every school should have a playground. Accordingly there will be Physical education teacher posts in every school. Two types of PET courses are available in Andhra Pradesh. They are Under Graduate Diploma in Physical Education which can be done by intermediate passed students and another is Bachelor of Physical Education which requires the candidates to be a graduate. Admission to these courses is through Physical education common entrance test. There are thirteen physical education colleges in Andhra Pradesh in private as well as government sectors. Those who complete the course can join as PETs in high schools.

Language Pundits: Language Pundit courses are for teaching the languages such as Telugu and Hindi in schools. Language Pundit Common Entrance Test is conducted for admissions. Presently pundit courses are available in Telugu, Hindi and Urdu languages.

Telugu Pundit: Qualification for pursuing Telugu pundit training is Bachelor of Art in Telugu literature/oriental language-Telugu/Telugu Optional Subjects/MA-Telugu.

Hindi Pundit: Candidates who have studied Degree with Hindi optional or Bachelor of Oriental language-Hindi/Dakshin Bharat Hindi Prachar Sabha Praveena/Hindi Prachara Sabha-Hyderabad Vidwan course/MA Hindi etc. Candidates who completed Telugu pundit course are referred as TPTs and candidates who complete Hindi pundit courses are referred as HPTs.

Special Education: Special education training is gaining popularity since a decade. Special education is to train the children who are suffering from physical and mental illnesses and is unable to compete with normal children. Presently DEd, BEd, MEd courses are being offered in Mental Retardation, Hearing, Visual, Autism, Impairment, learning disability as specializations. Rehabilitation council of India looks after the curriculum, recognition and maintaining of colleges. On completion of this course the candidates can get good opportunities in various other countries also. They can work as special education instructions in integrated schools, welfare organizations, trust schools, hospitals and rehabilitation centers. They can also work in ECSE/CSE research projects. They can also avail the opportunity of working as coordinators in private preschools for children who need special training.

Job opportunities in Special Education

Government of Andhra Pradesh issued DSC notifications frequently to fill thousand of teacher posts.  Kendriya Vidyalayas, Jawahar Navodaya Schools and in various government schools that are run by central government of India also offer job opportunities to these people.  Private sector schools are expanding every day and these educational institutes are being established in convents, nurseries and corporate educational institutes and there will also be opportunities in them.  Private organizations are offering Rs. 15 – 20,000 rupees per month as salary depending on experience and talent of the candidates.  Candidates who are teaching in engineering and medicine foundation courses in corporate schools are also paid Rs. 50,000.
